Soup ladles $223,000.(Spotlight) - Rocky Mountain News (Denver, CO)

* What: Eighth Annual Soup for the Soul, March 6, at Adam's Mark Hotel

* Raised: More than 900 people raised $223,000 for Porter Hospice and St. Anthony Hospice

* Spooning it up: Fifteen soup stations staffed by some of Denver's finest chefs, who ladled their creations. Bread, appetizers and desserts also were offered.

* Event chairwoman: Jeannie Bennington, one of the founding committee members

* Awarded: John Fielder received the Soup for the Soul Award of Courage from Porter Hospice and St. Anthony Hospice for dealing with his own tragedy with grace and dignity and inspiring others along the way. In September 2005, his wife, Gigi, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease, died at age 58. Six months later, Fielder had to cope with his son's suicide.

* Seen: Gregg Moss and Kim Christiansen (also emcee) from 9News; Lisa and Bruce Alexander, president and CEO of Vectra Bank Colorado and chairman of Denver Health; Arlen Reynolds, interim CEO of Centura Health; and Katrina Rivera and her baby Viviana, who is in Porter Hospice's special Butterfly palliative program for critically ill children.

* Up for auction: Nearly $27,000 raised; top items included Fielder's Last Dollar Ranch Reflection photo, which sold for $1,800.
